Tell us about yourself and what got you into the jewelry business.
I launched my Etsy jewelry shop Geo Supply Co. in spring of 2014. Selling my own jewelry has been a little dream baby of mine for quite some time. While I was on maternity leave the winter before I launched I finally found the guts to start to make it happen. Making jewelry became my personal getaway time in the midst of the beautiful chaos of having a newborn. My sweet husband would shoo me into my workroom to get some jewelry making done. (He's a saint.) Somewhere along the way I mustered up the courage to put my product out there into the universe.
How do you describe your design aesthetic?
Minimally modern pieces where geometry-meets-simplicity.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I feel like a lot of my inspiration stems from geometric shapes and the appreciation of clean lines. I love simple statement pieces and accessorizing outfits and homes with basic pretty items.
How do you try to differentiate yourself from the competition?
I think setting yourself apart from competition can be the most difficult and disconcerting task for any maker. I try to focus on making pieces I love to make and I think those I love would like to wear. I take into account the practicality and versatility of everything I make, too, because affordability and use are important factors to what I want to sell.
Do you have any advice for people trying to get into the maker/designer business?
GO FOR IT. You'll regret not taking the risk. And, even if the dream takes shape in an unexpected form, BE PROUD of yourself for taking chances and chasing dreams.
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the future of your business?
One of my business dreams is to be able to expand my jewelry shop enough so that I can have my shop be connected to contributing to worthier causes. I'm not quite there and I'm okay with that because you've got to start somewhere.
Do you have any plans to expand or re-energize your company?
I'm presently working on "streamlining" my brand. Right now I make everything and then some. I'm prioritizing what I want to be associated with Geo Supply Co. I'm also building a new site which has me doing all kinds of happy dances!
