Tell me some background about yourself and your business...
I am originally from a small town in Northwest Ohio and moved to Columbus many
moons ago to attend Ohio State. I am a wife and a mom to a teenage son who
brightens my life. By day, I am the Office Administrator for a small law firm here in
Columbus, and in my free time I escape to my creative zone aka Jennstone Studio.
Was making jewelry always your go to creative outlet?
I’ve had many creative outlets over the years but jewelry has been a constant. I was
making tri-bead jewelry and yarn pom-pom bracelets from a very young age. My
grandma was a wonderfully creative and craftsy person and she influenced so much of
What is your favorite stone that you work with and why?
I am currently in love with all types of slab stones. They have beautiful color and
interesting variations on the surfaces and edges. They can be mixed together for a
great statement piece or look gorgeous as a single slab on a simple necklace, showing
its own personality.
Where does your passion and drive stem from?
Along with my creativity, I would have to say my passion also comes from grandma.
She taught me to be passionate about making things and to be colorful. My drive
comes from being in the legal profession for the past seventeen years. I have learned
that the possibilities in life are endless, and there is always a way to make things
happen or work something out.
How would you best describe your style?
This one is tough to answer. I think the main thing about my style is that it is not busy. I
like simple lines and I am particular about the balance of a piece. I love to mix sparkly
crystals with natural stones. I think they complement each other in their diversity.
Do you have any advice for aspiring jewelry artists?
I would say to be true to your creativity.
Where do you see yourself taking Jennstone Studios in the future?
I would love to start getting my pieces into retail stores and explore wholesale
What is your favorite part about owning your own business?
I like deciding what I’m going to do and then doing it. Making things happen.
What do you look to gain/ what have you gained from being an OCC member?
There is an energy that comes from being around other creative people, even if their
work is the completely different than mine. I love that and find it inspiring. I also
appreciate the opportunity to take classes geared toward small and creative businesses
Where can we find your work?
Right now, my pieces are available through my Etsy shop,
